Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi International Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) has announced the commencement of submissions for the competition of the finest sculptures of traditional handcrafts for the second consecutive year. This initiative aligns with the exhibition’s commitment to preserving heritage professions and traditional industries, in conjunction with the Year of Sustainability, while focusing on the theme of the event, “Sustainability and Heritage… A Reborn Aspiration.”
The competition aims to showcase the UAE’s diverse, rich, and beautiful environment and heritage. It seeks to strengthen efforts in preserving Emirati heritage crafts and ensuring their transmission from one generation to another, as well as stimulating innovative approaches to traditional craftsmanship.
Moreover, the competition encourages the exchange of knowledge and expertise among individuals and companies in the field of handicraft industries, while raising awareness about the significance of preserving traditional crafts.
To participate and have the chance to win, the artwork must be created in 2023 and exhibited during the 20th edition of ADIHEX. It should incorporate natural materials associated with Emirati heritage handcrafts. The judging criteria consider elements such as the perfection and consistency of traditional materials, craftsmanship, manufacturing precision, raw material selection, adherence to safety standards, and suitability of dimensions for practical use.
Additionally, the product must be reasonably priced for consumers if produced in sufficient quantities for purchase by visitors and tourists. The competition is open to both individuals and companies of all nationalities.
In the previous edition, “Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts” claimed the first-place position in the best traditional handicraft sculptures contest, followed by “Bayt Al Khanyar” in second place and “Abu Dhabi Register for Artisans” in third place.
ADIHEX, organized by the Emirates Falconers’ Club, will take place from August 23rd to 29th, 2023, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event is officially sponsored by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), and ADNEC. Caracal International LLC serves as the sector partner.
At the same time, the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey, the European Foundation for Falconry and Conservation, the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, the Dubai International Horse Fair, The Game Fair – France, and JAGD & HUND in Germany are the industry partners. The event also enjoys the support of ARB Emirates as the official automotive partner, along with Mohamed bin Zayed Falconry & Desert Physiognomy School and the Arabian Saluki Centre in Abu Dhabi as visitor experience partners.
