Sharjah: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is fully prepared to handle any weather-related challenges with highly skilled teams and advanced equipment.
Teams from SEWA handled more than 5,200 reports in Sharjah, 820 in Kalba, and 299 in Khorfakkan between April 15 and April 29.
To resolve the electrical issues caused by the unusual weather, the Authority performed repair and maintenance work on electrical stations and transformers throughout the central region.
The Electricity Distribution Department’s deputy director, Ahmed Al Bass, emphasized the emergency teams’ 24/7 efforts to address reports and bring electricity back to impacted areas in Sharjah.
Through these efforts, the impact of the weather disaster was greatly reduced throughout areas in record time, with more than 1,300 distribution substations having their electrical service restored and 376 customers’ cables being repaired.
According to Youssef Al Hammadi, the Director of the Kalba Administration, the SEWA emergency department in Kalba received about 820 reports between April 16 and April 30, and it reacted to them quickly via the call center and other lines of communication (991).
The Khorfakkan Administration’s Director, Saud Abdulaziz, emphasized the work teams’ quick and effective response in handling the 299 reports that were received in Khorfakkan, upholding the highest standards and minimizing downtime.
Director of the Central Region Administration Khalifa Al Tunaiji stated that thorough checks of subterranean cables covering 275,000 meters in multiple places were part of the emergency maintenance measures carried out following the depression. They included 65,000 meters of overhead line maintenance as well.
In addition, 45 aerial transformers were installed and replaced, 240 distribution substations were maintained, 25 new distribution substations were built and installed, 180 RMUs were maintained, and 360 11 KV poles were installed and repaired.
