Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub will be hosting the upcoming 10-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 in April and May.
The 32-match ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 will be held from April 21 to May 7, with the championship game taking place at Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Two seats at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which is held in Bangladesh in September and October of this year, will be determined by the competition.
In addition to the host country, Abu Dhabi will have representation from the US, Vanuatu, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
At Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, the 2022 comparable match was also held, and Bangladesh and Ireland advanced to qualify.
This year, the two groups of five teams will play two sets of doubleheaders at Tolerance Oval and Zayed Cricket Stadium, two different grounds on the same property.
Matt Boucher, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, observed that, “It is always a privilege to host ICC events and we are thrilled to welcome the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 back to our venue. The event in 2022 was an undeniable success and the quality of cricket on display was incredible.”
“At Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, we place great importance on the development of women’s sport both in and out of the UAE. We believe that if you can see it, you can be it – and these tournaments have the potential to inspire young girls and women all over the world. Both ourselves and Abu Dhabi Sports Council take this responsibility seriously and we’re excited to deliver yet another thrilling tournament across our venue,” Boucher added.
The news comes after Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub announced the introduction of two new events. At the beginning of the month, the Tolerance Oval hosted its maiden Test match, in which Ireland made history by defeating Afghanistan in the longest format.
Teams from the UK were brought to the UAE capital for the first Abu Dhabi Women’s T20 and Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup seasons. The Blaze and the South East Stars competed in the women’s tournament; the former took home the championship after winning the three-match series 2-1. After that, six county teams competed in the Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup, with Yorkshire defeating Nottinghamshire in the championship match.
