Dubai: The Dubai Central Laboratory, a key component of Dubai Municipality, has introduced its Pork Detection System, a groundbreaking initiative designed to detect pork byproducts in processed foods.
This new screening technology employs high DNA concentration extraction methods to ensure the purity of meat products, aligning with the laboratory’s commitment to high-quality testing services and international standards.
This initiative reflects the laboratory’s ongoing efforts to foster a leading testing ecosystem, offering services that prioritize efficiency, quality, and adherence to global specifications. It plays a crucial role in safeguarding food quality and safety in the market, thereby supporting the sustainability of the food system and bolstering Dubai’s status as a top destination for living and business.
Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, the Acting Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized that this system was developed to cater to the specific needs of the local market, providing flexible and highly accurate testing services. This approach is in line with Dubai Municipality’s goal of establishing a sustainable health and food ecosystem, aimed at protecting the community from food-related risks and improving life quality in Dubai.
The system, developed in microbiological labs, significantly enhances trust in marketed products by detecting pork byproduct residues with unprecedented efficiency—about 100 times greater than traditional methods. This marks a significant advancement in laboratory operations and the achievement of global standards in testing and certification.
Moreover, the technology incorporates a state-of-the-art, fully automated system for sample tracking and results publication, with an automated fluorescence-based reading for detecting microorganisms, making it a leading solution globally for food sample analysis.
The technology delivers rapid, accurate results, capable of conducting up to 100 tests per hour and identifying various microorganisms, including bacteria, yeasts, and fungi, within a single day. This contributes to improved flexibility, productivity, and overall screening efficiency.
Dubai Central Laboratory offers a wide range of services, including food quality and safety tests, nutritional supplements analysis, and expiration date estimations for food products. It also provides environmental sample testing for drinking water, groundwater, and other sources to ensure the absence of harmful bacteria, alongside safety tests for consumable goods and products like cosmetics, detergents, and toys.
Equipped with the latest technologies and techniques, Dubai Central Laboratory remains a pioneer in the evaluation of products in Dubai’s market, enhancing consumer trust and safety standards.
