Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will host the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Congress in 2027, taking place for the first time in the MENA region, organised by Zayed Higher Organation for People of Determination (ZHO) in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, ADNEC and UAE Deaf Association.
The WFD Congress serves as a global platform for experts, industry leaders, and more than 2,000 deaf participants from 125 countries to exchange knowledge and discuss efforts aimed at enhancing inclusivity in Abu Dhabi and worldwide.
This significant gathering provides an opportunity to showcase Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts, guided by the wise leadership, to support and empower various groups of people of determination, particularly the deaf community. The emirate’s successful experiences, initiatives, and policies, which align with international standards, will be highlighted. These efforts demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that people of determination actively contribute to the process of construction and sustainable development. Furthermore, they underline the dedication to creating an enabling environment that improves the quality of life for people of determination and facilitates their integration into society.
Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZHO, expressed his congratulations to the UAE leadership on Abu Dhabi’s selection as the host city for the 20th World Congress of the WFD in 2027.
Major General Staff Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander in Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, remarked the support of the Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with ZHO and strategic partners, for the hosting of the 20th WFD World Congress in 2027.
Mr. Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, expressed great pleasure at Abu Dhabi being granted the opportunity to host the WFD World Congress. He welcomed the decision made during the 19th Congress, held recently in South Korea’s Jeju City. Al Humaidan emphasized that preparations for the major international event, which takes place every four years since 1951, are already underway.
With Abu Dhabi as the host city, the WFD Congress in 2027 will provide a valuable platform to advance the rights and inclusion of deaf individuals globally, while showcasing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to creating an inclusive society for people of determination.
