Dubai: One of the leading medical universities in the region, the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) has decided to partner with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).
The collaboration with RACDS makes MBRU the 1st University in the Middle East to associate with the Australian Institution.
Professor Zaid Baqain, Provost, MBRU and Brendan Peek, CEO, RACDS signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the alliance.
The partnership is expected to strengthen academic collaboration between the two institutions and allow MBRU graduates to engage in continuing professional development through RACDS Membership and Fellowship programs.
As part of the MoU, a conjoint exit exam in Periodontics specialty will be conducted in MBRU. Graduates from MBRU who successfully complete the exit exam will be eligible to apply for RACDS Membership in Periodontics and Master of Science in Periodontology from MBRU.
The MBRU postgraduate program is accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education in the UAE.
The MBRU Provost elaborated that, “This MoU will ensure MBRU graduates become acquainted with the latest dental practices followed by experts at RACDS. It will also open doors to networking opportunities with other RACDS Members and Fellows across the world. This, in turn, will improve the overall oral health in the community here in the UAE.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Momen Atieh, Chair of Oral Diagnostics and Surgical Sciences, MBRU, stated that, “We are very excited to collaborate with RACDS to provide opportunities for our graduates in Periodontics to be eligible to apply for RACDS Membership as part of a conjoint exam. Such partnership will allow our graduates in Periodontics to participate in continuing professional development and become Members and Fellows of an institution that upholds the highest standard in dental education, training, and clinical practice.”
Sharing his delight about the agreement between both institutions, Professor Ian Meyers, President, RACDS, observed that, “It is fantastic to see this collaboration which I believe will further strengthen ties between our two organizations. The RACDS has Fellows and Members right across the globe and we are very pleased to welcome graduates of the MBRU Periodontics program into this College community.”
