Abu Dhabi: The UAE flood damage assessment committee held its inaugural meeting under the presided of Minister Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei to assess and address the damage caused by the recent unprecedented floods to infrastructure, roads, and dams.
During the meeting, Minister Al Mazrouei, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure set forth the committee’s tasks, including assessing the damage’s extent and developing solutions. The committee is organized into four specialized groups, each responsible for different sectors: roads and infrastructure, houses and properties, dams and water facilities, and energy and water.
Minister Al Mazrouei praised the prompt actions of field teams that ensured the quick restoration of essential services, with roads, bridges, and dams resuming operations swiftly after the floods.
Following directives from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the committees were instructed to assess the damages caused by the intense rainfall promptly and to formulate a comprehensive plan for repairs. A deadline of one week was set for the delivery of a detailed report.
Additionally, Minister Al Mazrouei announced the formation of an expert team to study the potential expansion of dams and waterways to better handle future extreme weather events. He emphasized the objective of quick infrastructure recovery and the enhancement of resilience against weather-related emergencies.
Minister Al Mazrouei highlighted, “Our goal is to ensure the fast recovery of the infrastructure and to develop practical solutions that enhance the resilience of our infrastructure in the face of weather instability and emergencies.”
The Ministry is also coordinating the assessment of damages to citizens’ homes and providing necessary aid and support to expedite recovery and alleviate the hardships of affected residents.
