Chad: Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, opened the integrated UAE field hospital in the city of Abéché under the directives of the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide medical and healthcare services to Sudanese refugees in the Republic of Chad.
The field hospital was built for more than $20 million, and its departments include internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, orthopedics, general surgery, and pediatrics. In addition, it has 50 beds for inpatients and various medical specialties, 10 beds for the intensive care unit (ICU), a fully furnished radiology department, an emergency room, a laboratory, and a pharmacy.
The field hospital is run by Burjeel Hospital – Abu Dhabi and employs 92 nurses, 12 medical support workers, 41 non-medical support staff, and 22 physicians.
In keeping with the UAE’s policy of standing by friendly countries and supporting them in various circumstances, the field hospital’s opening is a part of the UAE leadership’s commitment to continuously provide humanitarian and relief support to the Sudanese people, lessen their burdens from the war, and meet their medical, humanitarian, and relief needs.
This time, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan reaffirmed that the hospital’s inauguration is a component of the assistance the UAE offers Sudanese citizens who are impacted by the difficult circumstances brought on by the country’s conflict, which started in April 2023. He clarified that it also backs the Republic of Chad’s initiatives to address the humanitarian crisis and lessen the strain brought on by the massive flood of Sudanese migrants into its borders.
Sheikh Shakhboot conveyed his gratitude to the Republic of Chad for its assistance and efforts in setting up the hospital, which also offers services to neighboring villages.
In order to satisfy the fundamental requirements of Sudanese refugees in Chad and their host communities, he said, the UAE has undertaken many humanitarian, relief, and developmental assistance projects in recent months. These initiatives include the hospital’s inauguration today. These projects include the UAE field hospital, the foreign assistance coordination office in Amdjarass, the upkeep and repair of schools, the drilling of wells, the distribution of food aid, and the installation of lighting fixtures for marketplaces and highways.
