Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced the extension of the Traffic Incident Management Unit in collaboration with the Dubai Police General Headquarters.
The project will encompass four more major road corridors by the end of 2024, bringing the total number of streets and traffic routes covered to 17. With this addition, the Unit’s total road length in both directions is increased to 951 km.
This action is in addition to RTA’s continuous efforts to meet several goals that include minimizing secondary collisions, improving traffic flow, and clearing affected cars from incidents as quickly as possible by the best worldwide standards.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, remarked that, “The Traffic Incident Management project jointly run with Dubai Police offers exceptional services to motorists, including addressing vehicle breakdowns, swift management of accident scenes, and restoring normal traffic flow.”
“The scope of the project also covers implementing temporary traffic diversions in the surrounding areas, aiding motorists, and providing traffic management support during events. Specific locations have been designated for the deployment of rapid response vehicles on major highways and critical roads to ensure their quick arrival at accident scenes, aiming for a response time of 10 minutes and a clearance time of 15 minutes,” Al Tayer added.
The expansion of the traffic incident management unit project in Dubai, according to Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, is an expression of the strategic partnership between the two organizations, which is predicated on creating an integrated operational framework that supports Dubai’s future vision.
Lieutenant General Al Marri praised the collaboration and coordination in managing traffic flow and enforcement actions, as well as the strategic relationship between the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police. This partnership benefits drivers and strengthens the sustainability of traffic safety in a setting where protecting people and property is a fundamental growth pillar.
