Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is in charge of Al Dhafra Region, recently visited Das Island to start the construction of a new hospital and residential complex. This is an important step for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), as they aim to grow in a way that is friendly to the environment, focusing on safety and sustainability. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by other important personalities including Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Mr. Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Mr. Ahmed Matar Al Dhaheri, Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Mr. Issa Hamad Bushhab, and Mr. Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri.
During the visit, Sheikh Hamdan toured Das Island and learned about the production facilities and ongoing projects. He also visited the control room where he was shown how Emirati employees manage the gas production plant. ADNOC has a comprehensive strategy to produce gas and aims to make the UAE self-sufficient in gas supply. Sheikh Hamdan took the opportunity to meet with ADNOC employees and expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s commitment to developing its citizens and empowering women, especially in the energy sector.
Das Island is a crucial part of the UAE’s infrastructure and plays a central role in ADNOC’s plans for gas growth. As natural gas has a lower carbon footprint compared to other fuels, it will be important in the transition to cleaner energy. The new residential complex on Das Island will support ADNOC’s expansion of gas capacity, promote economic growth, and meet the increasing global demand for gas.
Additionally, Das Island will become an electricity power hub as ADNOC works to reduce carbon emissions in its offshore operations. ADNOC has invested in a sub-sea transmission network that will connect Das Island to the onshore power network, potentially reducing its offshore carbon footprint by up to 50 percent. This project is part of ADNOC’s broader plan to invest in decarbonization projects.
As part of the expansion plan for Das Island, ADNOC will also provide more residential space and services for women. The company aims to increase female representation in technical positions to 25 percent by 2030, in line with its sustainability strategy. ADNOC recognizes the importance of diversity and aims to attract the best talent in the UAE to ensure a successful future for its business.
