UAE Weather Update: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has denied rumors that the storm affecting the UAE is over. While the worst of the weather is expected to ease this night, Saturday, March 9th, residents should be aware of continued rain, particularly in eastern and northern parts of the country on Sunday.
“There is still heavy rain in Abu Dhabi and Dubai,” NCM forecaster Maha Al Hashemi confirmed. Grey clouds with intermittent rain, lightning, and thunder are reported across the country. The cloud cover is expected to gradually decrease tonight and Sunday morning, with some lingering activity in eastern and southern regions.
Authorities have clarified that the weather’s severity is expected to reduce starting Saturday evening but will primarily affect the eastern and northern regions into Sunday evening. The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Joint Assessment Team are closely monitoring the situation, with rain currently focusing on the islands and northern coasts.
Maha Al Hashemi, speaking to the ‘Direct Line’ program, refuted the circulating rumors, stating, “This news is not true. Currently, the country is still affected by the surface depression.” She highlighted ongoing heavy rainfall in key cities and mentioned the observation of lightning and thunder alongside intermittent rain of varying intensities across the country.
The forecast suggests that the weather disturbance, marked by cloud activity, especially in the eastern and southern regions, is expected to start clearing by Monday morning, depending on prevailing conditions. Authorities urge residents and visitors to exercise caution and stay informed through the latest advisories from the National Centre of Meteorology for their safety and well-being.
