Dubai: Etihad Airways has issued a warning to travelers to stay informed about their flight schedules due to expected adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain, impacting the UAE until March 10. The airline encourages passengers to visit etihad.com for the latest updates and to allow extra time for airport travel.
Despite the inclement weather, flights departing from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport are operating as scheduled. Etihad emphasized that the safety and comfort of its passengers and crew remain a top priority. Several flights destined for Dubai were diverted to alternative airports, including Zayed International, Al Maktoum International, Muscat International, and Hamad International, due to the weather.
The UAE is facing severe weather conditions, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms hitting various parts of the country, leading to dark skies, strong winds, and flooded roads. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors, leading to the cancellation of events and the closure of popular spots.
The National Centre of Meteorology predicts continued unstable weather, including more rain, lightning, and thunder, with temperatures dropping to as low as 20°C in Abu Dhabi, 19°C in Dubai, and 10°C in mountainous areas. Visibility may also be reduced due to dust and sand stirred up by the strong winds and heavy rains.
Residents have been seen braving the weather in full gear, with images capturing individuals in raincoats and using umbrellas to navigate through the wet conditions. The severe weather is expected to peak today, prompting widespread caution and adjustments to daily routines.
