Dubai: Mr. Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, highlighted the UAE’s significant strides in attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The accomplishments were credited to collaborative efforts among government agencies, partners, and a strong commitment to fostering sustainable development partnerships both locally and globally.
Mr. Lootah made these remarks during a workshop organized by the General Secretariat of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with COP28. The workshop aimed to prepare the UAE delegation for the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), where the country will present its progress on the 17 SDGs and announce initiatives contributing to global goals by 2030.
Mr. Lootah emphasized that 2023, declared the Year of Sustainability, has served as a catalyst for all institutions and teams dedicated to promoting sustainable development goals. It has encouraged the private sector and civil society to prioritize SDGs.
Representatives from various entities, including the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, COP28, and the Government Knowledge Exchange Office, participated in the workshop. They reviewed plans to accelerate the realization of the 17 SDGs and explored ways to share the UAE’s model with other nations through strategic partnerships.
Ambassador Mr. Majid Al Suwaidi, Director-General and Special Representative of COP28 highlighted the inseparable connection between COP and the SDGs. He emphasized the importance of the SDGs in safeguarding the environment, promoting global cooperation, and fostering sustainable development.
The UAE, set to host COP28, the largest global climate conference, from 30th November to 12th December 2023 in Dubai, remains committed to achieving the SDGs. The HLPF presents an opportunity to collaborate with nations worldwide and advance sustainability by combining economic and social development with practical and innovative solutions.
The workshop also featured a presentation on COP28 preparations and highlighted the progress made through partnerships between the UAE and other countries.
The UAE delegation to the HLPF 2023 includes representatives from various organizations, led by Mr. Abdulla Nasser Lootah. Their participation aims to contribute to accelerating the recovery from COVID-19 and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
