Amdjarass: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a Ramadan program in Amdjarass, Chad, to aid Sudanese refugees and the local population. The continued program, led by the UAE humanitarian team, is a direct response to the leadership’s call for urgent humanitarian assistance and support to vulnerable groups.
The team, comprising the Emirates Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, is working closely with the UAE Aid Coordination Office in Chad. Their efforts are focused on distributing essential Ramadan rations and evaluating the needs of residents in nearby villages and towns to provide necessary humanitarian aid.
As part of the campaign, 6,000 food baskets and 500 relief bags, along with living supplies, have been distributed across various communities in Amdjarass. The Ramadan baskets are filled with vital food items such as rice, flour, sugar, oils, grains, baby milk, and dates. In contrast, the relief bags contain kitchen utensils, household equipment, and carpets, addressing the basic needs of families during the holy month.
Mohammed Idris, Director of the Amdjarass Municipality, has lauded the UAE’s continuous humanitarian efforts. He emphasized that the distribution of food baskets and relief supplies to impoverished villages significantly reduces the hardships faced by needy families.
Furthermore, Dr. Salem Al Ameri, Head of the UAE Field Hospital in Chad, shared insights into the hospital’s impact since its inception on July 9, 2023. Having treated approximately 20,000 patients, including Sudanese refugees and members of the local community, the hospital provides an array of medical services, from simple to complex surgeries.
Dr. Al Ameri also noted that the hospital would continue to operate during Ramadan to offer medical assistance to those affected by the ongoing situation in Sudan, thereby supporting Chad in addressing the humanitarian challenges prompted by the refugee influx.
