Sharjah: Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS) unveiled its development plans to strengthen the emirate’s exhibition sector and boost Sharjah’s economy.
The focus is on expanding operational capacity, increasing exhibition space, attracting international exhibitors, and launching new high-quality exhibitions, particularly in the automotive sector.
These goals aim to provide businesses with a world-class platform to showcase their products.
The ECS Board meeting, chaired by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, reviewed the Centre’s strong performance in 2023, including a significant rise in visitors (over 2.5 million) and events (around 50 exhibitions) compared to 2022. The positive trend continued in the first quarter of 2024 with successful exhibitions across various sectors.
Discussions centered on expanding exhibition space, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering Sharjah’s economic growth, particularly in retail, industry, and local product promotion.
The meeting stressed increased support for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and entrepreneurs in the exhibition sector. Initiatives like “Emirates Perfumes and Oud” and “Jewels of Emirates” at recent shows exemplify this commitment.
Al Owais highlighted Expo Centre Sharjah’s role in achieving Sharjah’s economic diversification goals. He emphasized the Centre’s success in attracting visitors and its role as a leading business hub, facilitating networking and collaboration across diverse industries.
Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of ECS, pointed out the exhibition industry’s resurgence and Expo Centre Sharjah’s focus on expanding events across various sectors. He noted the success of several exhibitions in the first quarter, including the Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show and ACRES 2024 (Sharjah Real Estate Exhibition).
The meeting also reviewed the performance of the Ramadan Nights Exhibition, underscoring its contribution to retail growth, sales, and domestic tourism during Sharjah Ramadan Festival.
