Abu Dhabi: The UAE government has declared a nine-day holiday for public sector employees to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, starting from Monday, April 8, 2024. This announcement means federal government employees will enjoy a week off, with work resuming on Monday, April 15.
This extended break comes as a part of the Eid Al Fitr celebrations, which mark the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. The exact start date of Eid will be determined by the sighting of the moon, as per Islamic tradition. Ramadan, which lasts for 29 or 30 days, will give way to Shawwal, the month Eid Al Fitr falls in.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued a circular to all federal entities, outlining the holiday period. Thanks to the UAE’s weekend being on Saturday and Sunday, the holiday period effectively grants federal employees a continuous nine-day break.
This break is especially significant as it represents the longest public holiday of the year, allowing residents to fully engage in Eid celebrations and traditions.
