DUBAI: Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, has arrived in the UAE to participate in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Santiago Peña, President of the Republic of Paraguay and Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Leaders including have also arrived in UAE. Leaders from more than 50 countries will arrive in the UAE this afternoon.
COP28, the global summit that commenced on November 30, 2023, is set to conclude on December 12. During the conference, world leaders will discuss five critical issues related to climate change, the associated challenges and their solutions. The summit will also be an important platform for major announcements that demand global attention.
1) Necessary investments to tackle climate change and its resulting impacts, 2) Assessment of each nation’s efforts to achieve the 2015 Paris Agreement’s objective of restricting global warming to under two degrees Celsius, 3) Prospects for fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, which are major carbon emitters, 4) Current and future state of technologies aimed at curbing carbon pollution, including ongoing research, and 5) The present and future status of renewable energy capabilities. These five critical issues will be the focus of discussion at COP28.
