Sharjah: The Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP) has launched its annual Zakat campaign, inviting individuals and organizations to donate during the holy month of Ramadan. Under the theme “Their Journey Continues with You,” the initiative aims to support cancer patients facing financial difficulties, reinforcing the importance of community efforts in the fight against cancer.
This year, FoCP is utilizing social media to share the courageous stories of cancer patients, aiming to inspire and involve a wider audience. The public is encouraged to contribute via the campaign website or bank transfers to Sharjah Islamic Bank, with options for SMS donations through Etisalat for various amounts.
The campaign focuses on reducing the psychological fears associated with cancer, correcting misconceptions about the disease, and demonstrating the significant impact of Zakat donations. Aisha Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of FoCP, emphasized the campaign’s role in promoting awareness and early detection of cancer. She highlighted the Emirati community’s commitment to supporting those affected by cancer, aiming to surpass last year’s achievements in donations and patient support.
In 2023, the Zakat Campaign raised over AED5.1 million, aiding around 100 patients and distributing 300 food boxes to low-income families of cancer patients, showcasing the community’s values of solidarity and cooperation.
