Dubai’s emergency response units have showcased exceptional preparedness amid challenging weather conditions, efficiently managing emergencies across the emirate.
A coordinated effort involving 2,300 personnel from Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, and Nakheel was initiated to tackle the fallout from severe rains battering the UAE over the weekend.
Equipped with an arsenal of over 700 pieces of machinery, including 250 tankers and 300 rainwater pumps, alongside more than 180 emergency and field survey vehicles, the teams were well-prepared to handle the resultant water-logged scenarios.
During a single day, from 06:00 to 15:00, Dubai Police received an overwhelming 10,232 calls on their emergency and non-emergency lines. Of these, 9,275 calls were directed to the emergency hotline 999, while 901 fielded 957 non-urgent inquiries.
In response to the inclement weather, Dubai Police has issued cautionary advice to the public, emphasizing the importance of using the 999 hotline only for emergencies. They’ve also warned motorists to avoid flood-prone areas, particularly valleys, to prevent risk to life and property.
Authorities have outlined a thorough plan prioritizing public safety and rapid response to weather-induced issues. The proactive approach of the field teams, informed by data and prior experiences, has been crucial in ensuring uninterrupted traffic and effective management of waterlogged areas.
