Abu Dhabi: The Public Prosecution’s Criminal Information Centre (Waey) has outlined the illegal fireworks trade penalties through a video post on its social media accounts. This concise video post sheds light on the stringent penalties set forth by Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2019, concerning Weapons, Ammunition, Explosives, Military Material, and Hazardous Substances.
According to Article 54 of the mentioned law, individuals found trading, importing, exporting, manufacturing, or facilitating the entry of fireworks into the state without an official license face severe consequences. These penalties include imprisonment for a minimum of one year and a fine not less than AED 100,000, or potentially both, depending on the case’s specifics.
- Serious Penalties: Anyone caught trading fireworks without a license can face imprisonment for at least a year and a fine of at least 100,000 UAE Dirhams (AED).
- Explosives: The law defines fireworks as explosives under the Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2019.
- Licenses Required: You need a license to possess, import, export, manufacture or even transport fireworks.
The law broadly categorizes explosives, including fireworks, as any chemical compound or mixture that, when ignited by certain triggers, produces pressure, heat, and speed capable of causing damage or harm to the surroundings.
Furthermore, Article 3 emphasizes the comprehensive prohibition on the possession, acquisition, and transport of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and similar hazardous substances without a proper license issued by the relevant authorities. This regulation underscores the state’s commitment to maintaining safety and security, ensuring that such dangerous materials are handled by qualified and authorized entities only.
This awareness initiative by the Public Prosecution is part of a broader effort to enhance legal literacy among UAE residents. By informing the community about the country’s latest laws and regulations through accessible platforms, they aim to foster a culture of compliance and awareness, ensuring the well-being and safety of all.
