Al Dhafra: The 5th Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship final leg for men and women is set to take place from April 11–13, under the patronage of Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The tournament, which the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority is organizing, will be held on the shoreline of Al Mugheirah City in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi.
The championship, which is an essential component of Abu Dhabi’s kingfish fishing season, aims to protect traditional heritage competitions reflecting UAE’s sea heritage, prevent overfishing, revive local maritime traditions, and highlight Al Dhafra’s stunning coastline. The competition also aims to rekindle the competitive spirit among participants, offer chances for traditional fishing, promote and popularize fishing, encourage wider participation, and establish the competition as a seasonal event.
The competition’s Champion of the Season title, which is based on the points earned over the three stages, Al-Sila’, Al Mugheirah, and the Al Dhafra finale, is new in its fifth iteration. A Nissan Patrol will be awarded to the male Champion of the Season winner, while a Rabdan automobile will go to the female winner. Points are distributed according to a specified chart, with ranks from first to thirtyth place.
The sole fishing technique allowed in the tournament is trolling, which involves utilizing hooks and a winch, according to the organizing committee’s specifications. It is definitely forbidden to use spearguns, nets of any type, or any other weapon.
Participants in the tournament are free to fish in any defined region of the nation where fishing is allowed, regardless of whether they are citizens, residents, or tourists.
It is mandatory for competitors to equip their boats with the ePassport security and safety equipment and capture a video of their capture. For men, the captured kingfish must weigh a minimum of 15 kg, while for women, it must weigh 8 kg. Additional guidelines about the competition may be found on Turathuna, the social media site of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.
