Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality organized a food waste reduction awareness campaign with its sub-centers. This campaign, which was aimed at all members of the community within the Municipality’s boundaries, was organized in collaboration with the Preservation of Grace Project of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority.
The program aims to promote awareness about the detrimental effects of food waste on the environment and the economy, as well as to develop a culture of giving among community members. Its main objectives were to promote positive behavior in line with sustainable development goals and to encourage the best possible use of food.
This included the significance of abstaining from bad eating practices, minimizing food preparation, just buying necessities, and refraining from excessive and impulsive shopping. By doing this, resources are preserved, their sustainability is ensured, and the quantity of trash that has to be disposed of and recycled is decreased.

The initiative also encouraged community members to maximize their use of resources, save them, and work together to share surplus food that is fit for human consumption. Through the “Preservation of Grace” Project, excess food was distributed to people in need in an attempt to lessen food waste and help those in need. The initiative was explained to the community, along with information on how to get in touch with the appropriate authorities to donate extra food, ensuring that it is distributed to the designated beneficiaries in a safe manner and in accordance with protocol.
Along with distributing awareness messages to the campaign’s target demographics, the campaign also involved the distribution of numerous awareness publications through the Municipality’s official social media accounts and the “Freejna” application.
