Abu Dhabi: The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and strategies to boost the flow of relief aid without hindrances to meet civilians’ needs were discussed over the phone by UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, and the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Apart from tackling the continuous humanitarian issues, His Highness also discussed with Kaag the development of the maritime corridor project, which aims to transport aid to Gaza and plays a vital role in offering a long-term humanitarian solution to the Palestinian people.
During the phone call, Sheikh Abdullah also addressed current developments in the region and regional and international efforts to reach a sustainable ceasefire to protect the lives of all civilians and intensify humanitarian support for Gaza’s residents.
Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering support for the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza’s operations, which would help ensure that enough humanitarian aid is sent to Gaza’s civilian population without hindrances.
Sheikh Abdullah further emphasized the vital role that the UN plays in putting an end to extremism, conflict, and violence in the region by working in collaboration with engaged international parties. In order to lessen the suffering of the Palestinian people, he emphasized the need of protecting all civilians and providing immediate humanitarian help.
Furthermore, the UAE Minister reiterated the UAE’s commitment to cooperate with the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, all countries and stakeholders involved in the maritime corridor initiative, aiming to establish a sustainable channel for delivering humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip.
