Abu Dhabi: The renowned Abu Dhabi Falconers Club is gearing up to kick off the 11th edition of the UAE President’s Cup Falcon Competition at Al Falah Field.
They have extended the competition’s duration from the previous 12 days to 16 days, now running until January 27, 2024. Along with supporting the UAE’s legacy and ancestral sports in keeping with its mission and values, the competition seeks to maintain the successes of the past.
The championship comprises seven categories: “Sheikhs,” “Public Owners,” “Public Open,” “Public Amateurs,” “Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),” “Local Production,” and “Ladies.” Additionally, with 92 diverse rounds, the event boasts the largest number of rounds in the history of falconry events.
Local falcon farms play a key role in preserving and promoting unique falcon breeds, and three prominent farms are participating this year, which are “Desert Falcons,” “Al Wathba Falcons,” and “Nad Al Shiba.”
The falcons take part in competitions for speed and skill. The vibrant Abu Dhabi Falcon Club hosts the annual occasion, aiming to share the history and legacy of the Emirates and preserve Bedouin customs. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Abu Dhabi Sports, directly oversees the event.
The astounding accomplishments of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Falconry Competitions and the unprecedented turnout of falconers for this event inspired the creation of the “Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club.” The Club was founded to preserve and support the upkeep of a portion of Abu Dhabi’s and our nation’s priceless history and customs.
One of the Club’s goals is to improve Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a falconer hub and provide a comfortable setting for falconry training.
