Italy: The UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has participated in the International Conference on Development and Migration in Rome. Ms. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, inaugurated the conference.
The prominent people who participated in the conference were heads of state, government ministers, and representatives of regional and international organizations concerned with migration and its humanitarian, social, and economic impact.
The conference was focused on irregular migration and emphasized the urgent need for integrated solutions to address its root causes. Participants have highlighted the significance of enhancing international cooperation to ensure the welfare of migrants. They brought attention to the alarming number of lives lost annually due to irregular migration. Additionally, the event delved into the interdependence between migration and socio-economic development as well as stability in the migrants’ countries of origin.
The UAE President was received by Ms. Giorgia Meloni. The President was accompanied by a delegation that included Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Court; Mr. Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; and Ms. Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has also announced the UAE’s contribution of $100 million to support development projects in countries affected by irregular migration, including backing initiatives proposed in the Rome Process.
The President has thanked the Italian Republic for hosting the important conference and inviting the UAE to participate. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has conveyed gratitude to the Italian Republic for skillfully coordinating the conference and extended his sincere wishes for its success in attaining outcomes that contribute to global development, stability, and peace.
