Geneva: Promoting gender equality and addressing the complexities of modern warfare, the UAE Parliamentary Group made noteworthy participation at the 37th session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. This event, conducted alongside the 148th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and the 213th session of the Governing Council, became a platform for vital discussions on the impacts of autonomous weapon systems, artificial intelligence, and their social and humanitarian consequences.
Held in Geneva, the forum served as a confluence for global leaders to deliberate on pressing issues surrounding women, peace, and security. The UAE delegation, comprising members from the Federal National Council (FNC), played an active role in these discussions. The assembly focused on draft resolutions and the broader agenda of promoting gender equality and enhancing the gender perspective in legislative and security frameworks.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, representing the UAE Parliamentary Group, emphasized the crucial role of parliamentarians in supporting women’s peacebuilding efforts, ensuring their safety and inclusion in security decisions. Highlighting the UAE’s initiatives, Dr. Al Shehhi referred to the efforts led by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation, who initiated the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Women, Peace, and Security Initiative.
This program, developed in cooperation with the United Nations, aims to bolster international cooperation and capability building in the realms of women, peace, and security. It focuses on creating a supportive environment for women, enhancing public awareness of gender and peacebuilding issues, and reinforcing the capacity of decision-makers globally to foster women’s active participation in peace processes.
This engagement underscores the UAE’s commitment to advancing the discourse on gender equality and peacebuilding, positioning itself as a proactive participant in global efforts to address contemporary challenges in security and legislative practices.
