Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has secured the top spot in the government sector category of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s ‘Research and Innovation Award.’ The recognition comes as a result of DEWA’s unwavering commitment towards research, development, and innovation in the field of balanced national energy. The award was presented by Mr. Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, to a team from DEWA.
DEWA was recently recognized for its innovative grid-integrated system, which effectively regulates photovoltaic inverters for autonomous voltage and improves the performance of the grid through the use of Distributed Renewable Energy Resources and ancillary services. Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD and CEO of DEWA, commended the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for introducing the award, which fosters a culture of creativity and innovation in tackling challenges in the energy, water, and infrastructure sectors.

The CE also emphasized that DEWA’s approach to innovation, research, and development in clean and renewable energy is aligned with the government’s plans and strategies that prioritize the clean energy sector as a crucial element in achieving Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

According to Mr. Rashid Bin Humaidan, DEWA’s Executive Vice President of Distribution Power, the system created by the company facilitates the integration of solar photovoltaic systems with the smart grid, leading to an improvement in network performance, enhanced efficiency, and a decrease in network losses. DEWA has undertaken several pioneering projects in the domain of clean and renewable energy, such as energy storage, smart grids, the integration of solar energy resources with distribution networks, and other sustainability-boosting initiatives aimed at optimizing the utilization of clean energy resources.
