Abu Dhabi: The Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee has declared the commencement of the highly-anticipated Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship for Men and Women. This exciting event will take place on Al Mughirah beach in Al Dhafra city, as part of the celebrated Kingfish Fishing Season in Abu Dhabi. Fishing enthusiasts and spectators alike can look forward to an unforgettable finale full of thrilling moments and rich cultural experiences.
The three-day championship organized by the committee has set aside a whopping $250531 worth of 20 prizes for both men’s and women’s categories, according to the event organizers. Participants can expect to compete fiercely for these exciting rewards as they showcase their fishing skills in this highly-anticipated tournament.
At its core, the championship has a twofold purpose, firstly, to acquaint the public with the scenic coastlines and islands that dot the Al Dhafra region and, secondly, to provide a platform for traditional fishing enthusiasts to engage in their beloved sport. Additionally, the tournament aims to foster a sense of healthy competition, revive fishing as a popular hobby, and regulate kingfish fishing using traditional methods that align with the UAE’s rich heritage, all while ensuring the preservation of marine life sustainability.
During the first and second rounds of the championship, a total of 779 contestants took part, consisting of 718 men and 61 women. These impressive numbers reflect the widespread interest and enthusiasm among fishing enthusiasts, both male and female, for this exciting event.
The organizers have made it clear that the championship will strictly abide by all the necessary security and safety protocols, as per the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Abu Dhabi Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority, and the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi. These measures are put in place to ensure the well-being of all participants and to maintain the integrity of the tournament.
