Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received submissions from a lot of experts and researchers, comprising 95 global universities and research centres from 36 countries around the world, to take part in the first Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Solar Conference 2023. DEWA is conducting the event from 15th to 18th November 2023, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD & CEO of DEWA, has emphasized the ultimate support of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, which has positioned DEWA as a significant contributor to the global clean and renewable energy sector. Mr. Al Tayer highlighted the MENA Solar Conference 2023 as a premier platform for unveiling cutting-edge innovations, research papers, and scientific breakthroughs in solar energy.
The event will attract scientists, researchers, investors, and esteemed international keynote speakers, fostering knowledge exchange, insightful discussions, and groundbreaking research exploration. With its timing just prior to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), the largest international climate event, the conference anticipates a remarkable turnout.
COP28 will be hosted by the UAE at Expo City Dubai in November 2023. Concurrently, the MENA Solar Conference will coincide with the 25th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS) 2023, organized by DEWA from November 15th to 17th at the Dubai World Trade Centre. WETEX is the region’s largest exhibition in the energy, water, green development, sustainability, and related sectors, and it stands as one of the world’s largest specialized exhibitions in these domains.
Mr. Al Tayer stated that DEWA attaches great importance to research and development in sustainability and renewable energy, which includes PV solar power and CSP, hydroelectric power, green hydrogen, and more. This supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100 percent of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
