Abu Dhabi: The World Triathlon Championship Series 2024 season-opener will take place at Abu Dhabi Sports Council on March 8–9, 2024.
The MENA region’s sole WTC event will be held in Abu Dhabi after the championship finals were successfully hosted there for the ninth time. From there, the series will travel to Yokohama, Japan; Cagliari, Italy; Hamburg, Germany; Montreal, Canada; and finally, the Championship Finals in Malaga, Spain.
Organizers have confirmed that the prestigious World Triathlon Championship Series opening round will take place across the roads, tracks, and waterways of Yas Marina Circuit, further solidifying the emirate’s well-earned reputation as the region’s home of international sporting events. Competitors will finish their race on the famous F1 start line, directly in front of the Main Grandstand.
The event village in the F1 Pit Lanes is accessible to the public on Friday and Saturday and is scheduled to return in 2024. It offers a variety of amenities and family-friendly entertainment for visitors of all ages.
The World Triathlon Championship Men’s and Women’s Sprint race, the Para World Cup, and the Elite Mixed Team Relay are the four categories in which 270 elite and para-elite triathletes will compete. These races are expected to draw the best athletes in the world vying for valuable Olympic or Paralympic qualifying points as they prepare to compete in the Paris Games this summer.
In addition to the elite races, thousands of junior and age-group cyclists, runners, and triathletes will compete in the community races. Praised for being the biggest and most inclusive triathlon in the Middle East, the schedule features fifteen community race categories suitable for all ages, skill levels, and fitness levels, as well as races specifically designed for committed athletes. Community single-discipline running and cycling races, which give cyclists and runners the opportunity to participate in this international triathlon event, are exciting additions to the 2024 edition.
The two days of competition are expected to be an amazing blend of top-tier competition and grassroots community involvement.
“We also look forward to welcome our community athletes, who travel from across the region, back for more competition in March. This year’s addition of single discipline running and cycling events, alongside the triathlon events, makes this wonderful weekend more accessible than ever before. I encourage everyone to check out the race categories and see how they can get involved,” Alawani remarked.
