Sharjah: The seventh edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) will take place on February 2 to 12, 2024.
The dates for the tournament are approved by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports.
Registration for the prestigious 10-day tournament is now open, and female clubs and teams from across the Arab world can register by sending in their applications through the national federations to which they are affiliated.
Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director-General of the Department of e-Government in Sharjah, has been appointed as the Chairman of the AWST Higher Steering Committee, with Ms. Hanan Al Mahmoud as Vice Chairperson of The Higher Steering Committee and Ms. Noura Ali Al Shamsi as the Director of AWST.
The committee has designated eight games for competition, including volleyball, table tennis, basketball, shooting, archery, fencing, athletics, and karate. These contests are designed not only to foster the sporting attitude of Arab women but also to encourage their participation in regional and international competitions.
Sheikh Al Qasimi stated that, “Organising the 7th edition of AWST embodies the visionary and forward-looking stance of Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi regarding women’s role and status in society, the need to boost their competitive spirit and excellence, particularly in non-traditional fields, with sports at the forefront. These efforts are a true reflection of a healthy and productive society, which confirms to the highest level of moral and value-based duties towards its people.”
