Sharjah: The 7th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) will feature 550 sportswomen, forming 61 teams from 14 countries.
Under the patronage of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of the Sharjah ruler and chairperson of Sharjah Women Sports (SWS), the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation is organizing the event, which is scheduled to take place from February 2 to February 12.
On February 2, the Al Majaz Amphitheatre will host the grand opening ceremony. The public is welcome to attend a thrilling lineup of performances and events.
The Higher Steering Committee of AWST announced the launch of the ‘International Conference of Medicine and Women Sports Sciences (Excel)’ on February 7th, highlighting the importance of this year’s Tournament.
‘Future Vision for Establishment, Development, and Achievements’ is the theme of the conference, which will be SWS’s first initiative of its kind in the Arab world. Serving as a scientific platform, it focuses on research-driven techniques, solutions, and health programs aimed at enhancing the performance of sportswomen.
The UAE and Iraq will compete in eight and seven sports, respectively, in the upcoming Tournament, according to information released by the Higher Steering Committee.
These sports include karate, shooting, archery, fencing, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and athletics.
The Higher Steering Committee announced that eight different sports entities in Sharjah will host competitions. Basketball practice and competitions will be held at Sharjah Women’s Sports, Sharjah Club in Samnan, and Sharjah Club in Bataeh. Similarly, volleyball practice and matches will be held at Khorfakkan Club and Sharjah Women’s Sports.
The schedule for the tournament and its honors will start on February 4 with fencing and continue with shooting on February 9, athletics and archery on February 10, and table tennis and karate on February 11. On February 12, basketball and volleyball will play in the grand finale.
