Abu Dhabi: The National Library and Archives in Abu Dhabi is set to host the fourth International Translation Conference on April 17-18, 2024. This event, themed “Pushing New Boundaries: Translation and Building Knowledge Societies,” will feature discussions on over 35 research papers.
Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director-General of the National Library and Archives, stated that the conference is well-prepared and will showcase a diverse array of research and innovative ideas in translation across various languages. He highlighted that the event builds on the success of the previous editions, which have become key reference points in the translation field.
The conference agenda includes topics such as the translation of historical archives, dictionary building, travel literature, machine translation, and the impact of translation on scientific and medical resources post-Covid-19. Other sessions will cover the translation of Arab and Islamic heritage in pre-Renaissance Europe, literary translation challenges, translation for People of Determination in the AI era, and the role of simultaneous translation.
Hamad Al Humairi, Director of Research and Knowledge Services at the National Library, emphasized the critical role of translation in global communication and its necessity for cultural and scientific progress.
The organizing committee received over 150 research paper submissions since June 2023, selecting 35 for presentation. An additional 10 papers will be published in a refereed research book despite their authors not being present.
The event will gather scholars and translation professionals from top universities worldwide and is expected to significantly contribute to the ongoing development of translation studies.
