Abu Dhabi: The UAE Public Prosecution has clarified the legal consequences for individuals involved in organized begging, using its social media platforms to spread awareness. According to Federal Decree Law No. 31 of 2021, specifically Articles 476 and 477, severe penalties are in place for those orchestrating such activities.
The law states that any group of two or more people engaging in organized begging will face a minimum of six months imprisonment and a fine of not less than AED 100,000. Furthermore, similar repercussions await individuals who are found guilty of recruiting others into the country for organized begging.
Participants in organized begging activities can expect a penalty of up to three months in prison and a fine of at least AED 5,000. The law takes a sterner stance if the offender holds a position of guardianship or authority over the beggar, considering it an aggravating circumstance.
An aggravating circumstance occurs when someone responsible for organized begging has guardianship, oversight, or authority over the beggar. This initiative by the Public Prosecution aims to increase legal awareness in the UAE and inform residents about recent legal updates, enhancing legal literacy and keeping the community informed about new laws.
