Abu Dhabi: The UAE has announced the provision of $15 million to fund the “Amalthea Fund,” which the Republic of Cyprus announced to promote the maritime corridor plan between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip, by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s directions.
The fund was set up to make sure that relief is provided as efficiently as possible and to expedite and coordinate the flow of supplies arriving in Gaza.
Additionally, by offering flexible funding options to those involved in bolstering the humanitarian response, the fund hopes to increase the ability of humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) emphasized that the United Arab Emirates’s (UAE) contribution to this fund is a result of its dedication to using this multilateral cooperative approach to address the rapidly deteriorating catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
This approach set a precedent for aiding the Palestinian people before the closure of the maritime corridor between Cyprus and the Strip.
The Ministry emphasized how critical it was to act quickly to lessen the rapidly deteriorating catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip and to guarantee the prompt, extensive, safe, unhindered, and sustainable delivery of relief via all accessible land, air, and sea routes.
The Ministry stated that the UAE, under its astute leadership, is still sending vital humanitarian aid and supplies to the Gaza Strip as part of its historic commitment to the brotherly Palestinian people. It also believes that the maritime corridor is a component of a larger effort to increase the urgent flow of aid and goods through all roads and mechanisms while guaranteeing protection for relief workers.
