Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the COP28 Presidency. It aims to bolster tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity during COP28.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate, were present at the signing ceremony.
The MoU intends to promote the UAE’s role in achieving COP28’s objectives for climate and environmental sustainability.
Ms. Afra Al Sabri, Director-General of the UAE Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, and Mr. Majid Al Suwaidi, Director-General and Special Representative of COP28, have signed the MoU.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak emphasized that the MoU signifies a collective commitment to COP28’s goals. It focuses on encouraging faith organizations and leaders worldwide to actively engage in this global conversation, Sheikh Nahyan said.
“This aligns with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Ministry’s efforts to combat climate change. Unified action rooted in values of tolerance is crucial for leveraging local and international resources toward the conference’s objectives,” the Minister added.
As per the MoU, Sheikh Nahyan will serve as the Commissioner-General and official spokesperson for interfaith dialogue at COP28.
The conference will take place from November 30, 2023, until December 12, 2023. It is anticipated to attract about 70,000 people, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, private sector representatives, academics, experts, youth, and non-state players.
