Abu Dhabi: Silal Food and Technology company is introducing ‘Innovation Oasis’, an advanced Innovation, Research, and Development center (R&D) in Al Ain. It aims to enable an ecosystem to enhance the UAE’s and the region’s agriculture and food sectors using groundbreaking technologies.
The 300,000-square-meter center, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and training facilities, strives to become a focal point for academic institutions, research organizations, and businesses. Its primary objective is to foster the development and testing of technically advanced solutions that will enhance agricultural growth and promote sustainable production practices.
Innovation Oasis addresses the critical challenges confronting agriculture and food production in the UAE and the region, encompassing a wide range of initiatives. These include optimizing water efficiency, seed development, enhancing soil quality, and advancing irrigation water systems. By focusing on these key areas, the center aims to revolutionize agricultural practices and bolster sustainable food production methods.
The facility also includes a soil and water lab, a pest and disease diagnostic lab, a variety improvement lab, a plant growth chamber and phenotyping facility for seed development, and postharvest facilities including cold stores and exhibition areas, as per the statement.
These comprehensive amenities enable comprehensive research and development activities aimed at advancing agricultural practices and promoting innovation in the food sector. An open-field trial site will be established, incorporating fertigation systems, IoT sensors, weather stations, and automated systems.
