Sharjah: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has completed building a pumping station and extending water lines for the Al Hafiya lake project in Kalba at a cost of AED 27 million ($7.35 million).
The water pipes were extended using premium carbon steel materials, measuring 400 mm in diameter and 4 km in length.
A half-million-gallon subterranean water tank was also constructed, in addition to five excellent and productive pumps. In order to support the construction of this metropolitan project, the Authority pumped over 40,604,921 IG (184,594 m³) of water.
The acting director of the Kalba Department, Youssef Mohammed Abdullah Al Hammadi, clarified that low-voltage cables measuring 450 meters and high-voltage cables of 3,750 meters were used to create the electrical network. AED 944,650 ($257,500) was spent installing two 11 kV substations and two electrical distribution boxes.
He also stated that, for a total of AED 10,200,000 ($2,775,600), 123 lighting poles with lanterns were installed, 6,500 meters of low-voltage cables were run for lighting poles, four lighting control boxes were installed, and 3,100 meters of concealed lighting were installed along the lake extension.
The SEWA has experienced significant growth since it started as the private company Sharjah Electricity & Water Resources Co. It was later taken over by the Sharjah Government and renamed the Sharjah Electricity & Water Department.
With the economic, industrial, and social development in Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued a decree to establish SEWA as an independent entity.
