Dubai: The 24th edition of the Dubai Open Chess Tournament is set to welcome 200 players from 28 countries. The event, hosted by the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, will run from May 25th to June 2nd, 2024.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. Present at the event were Najib Mohammed Saleh, Deputy Chairman of the Club; Othman Musa, the tournament director; and Mohammed Al Husseini, Executive Director of the Club.
Saleh emphasized the tournament’s prestigious status, noting its significant role in the careers of numerous renowned chess players, including world champion Magnus Carlsen. He highlighted the tournament’s reputation as one of the largest and most esteemed international chess competitions.
This year’s tournament will feature some of the world’s top chess grandmasters. Notable participants include Teymur Radjabov from Azerbaijan, India’s Raunak Sadhwani, and China’s Lu Miaoyi, who holds the title of Woman Grandmaster. The UAE team will be led by International Chess Federation Master Saeed Ishaq.
The Dubai Open Chess Tournament, established in 1999 to nurture local talent, has grown into one of the Middle East’s largest chess events, attracting global participation. It boasts a prize fund of $52,000, underscoring its status as one of the strongest open tournaments worldwide.
