Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Keolis MHI, the operator of Dubai Metro and Tram, has unveiled an enhanced schedule for the Dubai Metro Red Line Y junction, the meeting point of three railways.
This will remove the requirement for passengers to change trains at Jabal Ali metro station beginning on April 15, 2024.
This strategic improvement is a crucial component of RTA’s dedication to raising trip schedules, timeliness, and operational effectiveness while elevating the quality of the travel experience for passengers using public transportation.
With the creation of (Y junction) and preservation of punctuality during peak hours, the upgrade comprises a major redesign of the metro’s operating mechanism on Dubai metro’s Red Lines. The trains will run alternately, providing smooth travel from Centrepoint directly to UAE Exchange Station and Expo 2020 Station without changing trains at Jabal Ali Station. This is known internationally as “Y-Junction train operations.” In the same vein, travels ending at Centrepoint from Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange will simplify everyone’s commute.
Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operation at RTA emphasized that these enhancements were determined based on studies indicating a consistent rise in the ridership of Metro’s Red Line. The upgrades demonstrate RTA’s commitment to improving public transport journey experiences.
“Passengers would no longer need to interchange / swap at Jabal Ali metro station. The commuters traveling from Ibn Battuta station to UAE Exchange can now benefit from a direct journey, while those heading to Gardens – EXPO 2020 can conveniently board a train directly to their destination, explained Al Mutawa.
“Additionally, terminal station information would be prominently displayed on Passenger digital Information screens at Platforms and announced via Public Announcements upon Train Arrivals, further enhancing passenger convenience,” he noted.
To assist and inform the passengers both before and after the implementation for a few weeks, more workers will be sent out.
