Abu Dhabi: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest manufacturer of “premium aluminum,” and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (“Masdar”), one of the biggest renewable energy firms globally, have partnered to pursue the potential for low-carbon aluminum growth and aluminum decarbonization.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the Chairman of Masdar and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, observed the signing.
To assist in the decarbonization of EGA’s current operations in the United Arab Emirates as well as any future operations there, Masdar and EGA will investigate working together to create renewable energy projects, possibly including battery storage and the creation and storage of green hydrogen.
The two businesses will collaborate globally to identify chances for Masdar to help EGA power its new aluminum manufacturing facilities using renewable energy sources.
Masdar is the premier clean energy firm in the United Arab Emirates and a global pioneer in renewable energy. It creates and manages renewable energy projects at utility scale all around the world.
Because the manufacture of aluminum requires a lot of energy, the worldwide aluminum industry’s greenhouse gas emissions are primarily from the burning of fossil fuels to generate the power needed for the process.
Mohamed Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, remarked that, “Masdar is proud to be collaborating with EGA to help decarbonize the aluminum production process. Strong partnerships such as this are exactly what the world needs to accelerate our path to Net Zero.
“When organizations combine their knowledge and resources to help decarbonize vital industries, we not only protect the environment but we also boost the economy. This is core to our mission at Masdar. We look forward to developing further compelling propositions for international markets to maximize the economic benefits of using renewable energy,” Al Ramahi added.
One out of every 25 tonnes of aluminum produced globally is produced by EGA. The company ships its metal to more than 50 nations, making it the largest made-in-the-UAE export after gas and oil.
