Dubai: In line with its ambitions to protect personal user data generated from Emiratis and other residents in the country, the UAE Public Prosecution has revealed significant changes to the quantum of fine which can be placed for any instances of collecting and processing personal user data and information with an intent to misuse.
Through its social media posts, the authority intimated that illegal use of personal data can result in imprisonment and fines ranging between $13,612 and $136,000.
Whoever uses information technology or any means of information technology to collect, archive or process personal information and data relating to Emiratis or residents of the UAE in contravention of the legislation in force in the State” shall be sentenced to detention and/or a fine ranging between AED50,000 ($13,612) and AED500,000 ($136,000).
The UAE Public Prosecution updated citing Article 13 of the Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combatting Rumors and Cybercrimes.
The detailed explanation to the new legal notification was shared by the authority to further enhance the legal culture among members of the community and increase their awareness about the latest legislations in the country.
