Dubai: The “DIFC Metaverse Platform” was officially launched by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), in keeping with the mission of the Dubai Higher Committee for Future Technology and Digital Economy to draw in global technology innovators.
The platform is a component of an all-encompassing plan being developed by Dubai International Financial Centre, the top international financial hub in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region, to strengthen Dubai’s position as a leader in the global metaverse.
The Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which intends to support 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030, add $4 billion to Dubai’s GDP, and draw 1,000 firms specialising in blockchain and metaverse technologies, is in line with the DIFC Metaverse Platform. The platform also complements the recently unveiled Dubai Economic Agenda D33’s goal of generating $27 billion in economic value per year via digital transformation.
Mr. Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC Authority, stated that, “The Dubai government has shown great foresight in introducing a metaverse strategy that has the objective of making the emirate a global hub for technology and innovation. The development of the integrated DIFC Metaverse Platform will accelerate the achievements of Dubai’s aspirations in this sector. The initiative is a natural extension of our Innovation Hub proposition that has shaped the technology and innovation landscape in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region.”
Three major efforts are part of the DIFC Metaverse Platform. The first is an accelerator program with a physical studio specifically for metaverse technology, which will support the growth of a creator community and business development. The platform will also handle the creation of metaverse policies and laws pertaining to open data, digital identities, and corporate law frameworks. The effort will also promote the growth of a metaverse community that will look into ways to improve users’ access to the metaverse.
The Applications will open for the Metaverse Accelerator Program, the first project to be launched under the platform’s banner this month. The program hopes to get more than 500 applications in the upcoming years, select 50 of the most potential program graduates, and encourage investment opportunities that will support the sector’s expansion.
