Abu Dhabi: According to the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), the Enviro-Spellathon app has recorded 6,100 downloads since August, 2022.
The Enviro-Spellathon is an EAD-led annual activity which is held within Abu Dhabi schools. The program encourages eco-literacy on the local flora, fauna and create awareness about the local environmental issues among students across Abu Dhabi through a structured academic exercise.
Mr. Ahmed Baharoon, Executive Director Environmental Information, Science and Outreach Management at EAD, remarked that “since it was launched, 1.8 million students from 92 percent of Abu Dhabi schools use the Enviro-Spellathon as extracurricular activity.”

We have witnessed an unprecedented number of downloads of our Enviro-Spellathon since the summer, currently over 6,100. We believe that this increase is due to our social media promotion aimed at parents, which encouraged them join their children in completing the Enviro-Spellathon during the summer break to keep the students engaged and entertained.
Mr. Baharoon stated.
The program is designed in both Arabic and English languages for students aged from 5 years to 13 years.
Started in 2001, Enviro-Spellathon program offers significant advantages, including the targeting of students in a structured way and the boosting of eco-literacy along with language and vocabulary skills. The scheme also helps foster sound environmental behaviour and ethics among young people, which will eventually build a more sustainable world in the future.

The app, which can also be used without an internet connection, features 18 games, 12 animations, nine interactive animations, and voice-overs throughout each book.
Furthermore, the Enviro-Spellathon has a live testing section where students are allowed to test their knowledge by taking a test after the completion of each level. The live tests are automated, and the results are sent to the relevant teachers via email with a series of certificates awarded for successful completion of the tests at each level.
