Abu Dhabi: The Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) emphasized the significance of empowering people with intellectual impairments, particularly those who have Down syndrome, to facilitate their integration into society and enable them to realize their full potential on World Down Syndrome Day, which is commemorated on March 21st each year.
According to ZHO, this may be accomplished by fostering inclusive settings that respect diversity and provide everyone equal opportunity.
This entails expanding access to resources, dismantling social obstacles, and putting laws and procedures in place that guarantee people of determination in general, and those with Down syndrome in particular, equal chances for work, education, and social involvement.
The organization reported that it serves 279 kids who are enrolled in its care and rehabilitation centers around Abu Dhabi on World Down Syndrome Day.
According to ZHO, early intervention programs including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and special education can help people with Down syndrome acquire the skills they need for academic learning, social relationships, self-care, and communication.
World Down Syndrome Day is observed to raise awareness and support for people with Down syndrome, acknowledge their special talents and abilities, and promote social inclusion and acceptance, according to ZHO Secretary-General Abdullah Al Hammadi.
Furthermore, World Down Syndrome Day offers a chance for people all throughout the world to unite and demonstrate their support for individuals who are impacted by this illness.
“By increasing our understanding of Down syndrome, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society for everyone. Al Hammadi pointed out that empowering and integrating People of Determination into society through their involvement with external community members and enhancing their self-confidence are among the goals pursued by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination,” ZHO Secretary-General added.
