Dubai: Winter has finally made its presence felt in the region, with February bringing the cold temperatures, which was expected during the November to January period.
Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais, one of the country’s highest points, recorded the lowest temperature yesterday at 4.2 degrees Celsius. Despite the sun shining brighter, much of the country experienced overcast conditions.
The chilly weather follows a week of rain across various parts of the country, leading to crowded beaches and outdoor dining areas. Jebel Jais, in particular, attracted many tourists. Snow enthusiasts are hopeful for temperatures to drop to zero, recalling the snowfall in Ras Al Khaimah in 2017 and in Jebel Jais in 2009.
Chance of Rain
The National Meteorological Center has predicted rain due to a surface depression forming in the UAE, following three days of dust storms and fog.
Cold Engulfs Gulf
The cold snap has affected the entire Gulf region, with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar experiencing lower temperatures. Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk region and Oman’s Jebel Shams have seen temperatures drop to zero and 3 degrees Celsius, respectively, with reported snowfall in Saudi Arabia. The cold spell, more pronounced this year compared to last, has been sweeping across the Gulf over the past week, reaching its peak yesterday with the lowest recorded temperatures.
