Sharjah: The 49th edition of the London Book Fair became a platform to showcase Sharjah’s passionate pursuit of cultural projects, as the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) highlighted the “Historical Corpus of Arabic Language” at the event.
The Emirate of Sharjah was celebrated as Market Focus at the Book Fair.
ALA exemplifies the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to support and protect the Arabic language, one of the key pillars of Arabic civilization.
Sharjah’s Market Focus Pavilion at the Event displayed the 1st 17 Volumes of the Corpus, already available for the Public. The Corpus is part of Sharjah’s integrated cultural project, and showcases the Emirate’s commitment to collaborate with Arabic language academies from across the Arab world.
The Historical Corpus of the Arabic Language is the first-of-its kind project to chronicle 17 centuries of development in the Arabic language, and provides essential information about the history of Arabic lexicon.
A dedicated website for the Historical Corpus provides an opportunity to scholars, linguists, researchers and language enthusiasts from across the globe to access thousands of books, manuscripts and resources, some of which are available online for the first time.
The massive digital library includes books in literature, poetry, philosophy, language and other disciplines.
