Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Gas Safety Committee has reviewed and approved the most significant outcomes from the six-month operation of its final report. The Emirate’s residential structures and commercial businesses now have more secure and safe liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) systems because of the committee’s hard work.
The Committee further delineated the principal obstacles detected during inspection campaigns and delineated suitable remedies to tackle them, in collaboration with pertinent authorities and associates.
Dr. Saif Said Al Qubaisi, Acting Director-General of Regulatory Affairs at the Department of Energy and Chairman of the Gas Safety Committee, said that, “The Committee has achieved promising results in enhancing the safety and security of LPG systems and protecting residential buildings and economic establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The inspection results for residential buildings exceeded the target, reaching 2,991 buildings compared to the target of 2,800 buildings. As for the inspection of economic establishments, the number reached 8,403 economic establishments compared to the target of 6,900 economic establishments, which represents a significant achievement.”
“Al Qubaisi indicated that these positive results reflect the commitment of the inspection teams to perform their tasks with the required accuracy and their endeavor to conduct visits and carry out a comprehensive survey of the areas assigned to them, which increased the number of buildings and economic establishments covered in these inspection visits,” Al Qubaisi added.
Regarding the report’s conclusions, Al Qubaisi stated that some businesses that had broken the safety protocols for the gas system had their circumstances corrected as a consequence of the inspections. After completing the necessary repairs, the majority of these businesses were reopened. Furthermore, several circulars were released to enhance the safety of LPG systems throughout the emirate.
With the involvement of twelve Abu Dhabi government organizations, the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi established the Gas Safety Committee. Reviewing protocols, guidelines, and safety precautions about gas supply and fittings was the Committee’s job to stop gas-related events in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
