Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Center for Sheltering and Humanitarian Care (Ewaa), an affiliate of the Department of Community Development (DCD), has launched short story competition, “Our Stories”, to foster meaningful narratives and promote awareness of violence and abuse.
Ewaa is calling on students and all community members in Abu Dhabi to submit short stories that shed light on the negative effects of violence and abuse as well as promote understanding of their impact, manifestations, and ways to stop them. This comes as part of the Center’s role in preventing violence and abuse and raising awareness within society, as per the statement.
Entries for the competition are invited, with stories adhering to criteria for a short story in Arabic or English, spanning 2,000 to 3,000 words. Submissions are required through the competition webpage by 30th September 2023.
Submitted stories must be original and unpublished, demonstrating a skillfully constructed narrative with linguistic coherence. Based on the specified criteria, the judging panel will choose 10 winners. These winning stories will be published and presented at the 33rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. An event at the fair will celebrate the winning authors, and their stories will be highlighted on Ewaa’s website and social media channels.
Ewaa is a social sector entity affiliated with DCD. It provides care and holistic services for victims of human trafficking in the UAE and cases of violence and abuse in Abu Dhabi. Through programs and initiatives, it raises awareness and seeks to change the perception in the community towards violence.
