Dubai: The Dubai Police, represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, has announced the commencement of the highly anticipated second edition of the ‘Dubai Police Electronic Games Championship’. The championship is set to take place at the Dubai Police Officers Club in Al Jaddaf and was officially unveiled during a press conference held at the Dubai Mall. The event was attended by officers, journalists, and online gaming enthusiasts.
Major Mr. Abdullah Al Shehi, Deputy Director of the Anti-Cybercrime Department, highlighted the championship’s significance in line with Dubai Police’s continuous efforts to raise community awareness, particularly among the younger generation. He emphasized that the event, sponsored by Dubai Police’s Esaad Centre, aims to provide meaningful engagement for participants during their leisure time. Major Mr. Al Shehi also announced that the championship is being organized in collaboration with Que Club, Four04, UAE Smashers, and Teleoise, which will add to the excitement of the competition.
Ms. Manal Ibrahim Haji, Director of the Security Media Department, shed light on the championship’s objectives and its focus on enhancing security awareness against cybercrime and online dangers. Ms. Haji emphasized the event’s goal of promoting a balanced culture in dealing with electronic games while encouraging the preservation of general and mental health through moderation in gaming. Additionally, she stressed the significance of maintaining privacy and urged participants not to share personal information, data, or images with strangers during game conversations. Haji also mentioned that the event aims to raise awareness about common cybercrimes associated with gaming and electronic financial transactions.
Lieutenant Mr. Saeed Al Marri, a member of the Organizing Committee, revealed that the championship boasts an impressive prize pool of AED 120,000 ($ 32,400 ). Mr. Al Marri announced that interested participants can register for the event by scanning the Quick Response (QR) code, which will be announced via Dubai Police’s social media platforms. The competitions will feature popular games such as “VALORANT,” “FIFA 23,” and “Super Smash Bros Ultimate.”
